It was built to defend against maritime intruders. One of the most attractive towns in Greece, Nafplio is a maze of medieval narrow paved streets, a delightful harbor lined with palm trees and imposing 15th century fortresses. From 1829 to 1334, the town was the first capital of liberated Greece.
