The Venetian fortress at Frangokastello on the south coast of Crete. Built by the Venetians in in 1371 to as a defence against pirates and rebellious Sfakiots, the sandy coloured fortress is well preserved and consists of a massive rectangular keep reinforced at the corners with square towers, battlemented all round.
