The charming Renaissance and medieval town of Pienza is wonderfully set on a hilltop surrounded by the spellbindingly beautiful and dreamy landscape of the Val'Orcia, in Southern Tuscany. The town is a maze of delightful small lanes lined with courtyard gardens and stores selling locally made cheese and wine. The heart of the town and the street that the others radiate from is the, Corso Rossellino, named after the architect who was commissioned by Pope Pius II in the 15th century to transform the town into a model for Renaissance town planning. Pope Pius died before the project could be completed and the town never fulfilled its true vision, however the towns setting and timeless qualities echoes of every person visions of a Tuscan town.
