In fact this region was considered to be representative of all of Libya and when the ancient Greeks divided the world into three parts, they only included Asia, Europe and Libya (Cyrenaica).

The unique rock sculptures at a religious cult sanctuary at Slonta made by the indigenous Libyan population.

The ruins of the Byzantine church at Ras Al-Hillal which was built on the orders of Byzantine Emperor Justinian.

The two 6th century AD Byzantine Basilicas of the small town of Latrun which are decked out with white Proconnesian marble architectural elements and are wonderfully situated overlooking spectacular Eastern Libyan coastline.
