The Ancient Greeks, who were always on the lookout for rich, fertile, naturally beautiful and inspiration lands to colonise, choose the region and then built the the five cities known as the Pentapolis. These cities were Cyrene, Apollonia, Teuchira, Ptolemais and Eusperides. In fact this region was considered to be representative of all of Libya and when the ancient Greeks divided the world into three parts, they only included Asia, Europe and Libya (Cyrenaica).
